Although this armchair with its sweeping arms was designed in around 1904, the model did not become widely popular until some twenty years later when it was deemed to be a proto-modern masterpiece and included by Le Corbusier in many of his projects, including his seminal “Pavilion de l’Esprit Nouveau” at the “Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs” in 1925 and also in his installation at the Weissenhof Siedlung in Stuttgart in 1927. Le Corbusier paid tribute to this design, which comprises only seven sturustural elements, srating: “this chair has nobility.”
